Detroit Stars Singing Competition
2011 Negro League Weekend
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
CONTEST DESCRIPTION:
The Detroit Stars Singing Competition contest (“Contest”) will begin on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 and end on Friday, July 15, 2011 (“Contest Period”). One (1) grand prize winner will be awarded $1,000 and the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Detroit Tigers game.
HOW TO ENTER:
Listeners of WHTD-FM, WDMK-FM and WCHB-AM (the “Participating Stations”) who are legal residents of the U.S., residing within the terrestrial listening area of the Participating Stations, and are at least 16 years of age and older will be able to take part in this Contest. To participate in the Contest, listeners must do the following:
1.Listeners must audition by singing karaoke at a series of events held by the Participating Stations on Tuesday, June 7th, June 10th and Saturday, June 18th.
2.The last chance to audition with the Participating Stations is Saturday, June 18th.
3.After the final round of preliminary auditions on June 18th, a group of thirty (30) selected contestants will be asked to return to perform and will be narrowed down to a group of ten (10) that will perform in the next round of the competition on June 22nd at Waterfalls, 673 Franklin St., Detroit, MI.
4.On July 15th at the Negro League Game, the ten (10) selected contestants will sing and from among those ten (10) contestants, two (2) will be selected to perform after the game on July 15th.
5.On June 15th, one (1) person (from among the two (2) finalists) will be deemed the grand prize winner and will be given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a game (TBD) and win One Thousand Dollars ($1,000).
ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:
1.The Contest is open to listeners of the Participating Stations who are 16 years of age and older and are legal residents of the U.S. residing within the terrestrial listening area of the Participating Stations.
2.Employees of the Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, general sponsors, promotional partners, other radio stations in the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area, and members of their immediate families (including children, spouses, parents, siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or households (whether or not related) of any of the above are NOT eligible to participate or win in this Contest.
3.This competition is for amateurs. Listeners who are under a “current” record deal or are in the process of professionally recording for a record label or artist are ineligible for this competition. No groups or duos will be allowed to compete; only single individuals.
4.Contestants are required to wear proper attire; no revealing clothing will be allowed (tank tops, muscle shirts, sheer, see through shirts or blouses, etc). Contest participants performing in the final round of the competition are prohibited from wearing “Brand Name” logos / trademarks, i.e. Fubu, Coke, etc. while inside the baseball park.
5.Contestants under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian for the duration of their Contest participation.
6.Persons who have won a prize in another contest or promotion of any kind from the Participating Stations within the thirty-day (30) period immediately preceding the start date of this Contest are not eligible to participate.
PRIZES:
1.Grand Prize package will include the following:
a. an opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Detroit Tigers home game
b.One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) awarded from the Detroit Tigers
2.Prizes that are not mailed (via us mail or UPS) or provided by the participating sponsor must be claimed at the station’s offices within thirty (30) days of the date of winning.
3.No substitution of prize is offered, no transfer of prize to a third party is permitted and non-cash prizes may not be redeemed for cash value, except as determined by station management and/or the sponsor in its sole discretion.
4.All contest winners must sign and date official station release and waiver forms as requested. Failure to do so will result in winner forfeiting the prize. If a winner is under the age of eighteen (18), all release and waiver forms must be signed and submitted by the parent or legal guardian of the winner.
5.All cash prizes won will be awarded in the form of a check. Winner will be notified when their check is available for pick-up.
6.If for any reason a contest winner provides notice that he or she has decided not to accept an awarded prize, the winner will be required to sign a release form acknowledging that they are forfeiting the prize. It will be at the discretion of the contest sponsor and / or contest administrator if another contestant is to be selected as the winner if time permits.
7.If contest winner does not claim their prize within 30 business days of winning notification they forfeit the prize.
8.Winners must provide valid identification (i.e. via driver’s license, passport or other photo I.D.) to claim their prize. If the winner is under the age of eighteen (18), they must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian who must present valid identification when claiming the prize.
EXECUTION:
1.During the Contest Period, eligible listeners will be encouraged to participate in the competition by auditioning and singing karaoke at a series of announced and scheduled events held by the Participating Stations on Tuesday, June 7th, Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 18th.
2.The last chance to audition with the Participating Stations is Saturday, June 18th.
3.Contestants will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges identified by the Detroit Tigers, on-air personalities, members of the promotions staffs of the Participating Stations, and one member of the Detroit Tigers organization. Judges will make their decisions based on the following criteria: singing ability, showmanship, personality, and appearance.
4.Profanity and obscene language may not be used. No original songs or rapping will be allowed. No duos or groups will be allowed to complete, only single individuals. Contestants may provide their own instrumental copy of music (on CD) to compete.
5.After the final preliminary auditions on June 18th, a maximum of thirty (30) quarter-finalists, who were selected from among all eligible contestants that auditioned, will be asked to return for the next performance round on June 22, 2011.
6.The thirty (30) quarter-finalists will be narrowed down to ten (10) semi-finalists on June 22nd at a location TBD. The ten (10) semi-finalists will be asked to return for the next performance round on July 15, 2011.
7.On July 15th at the Negro League Game, the ten (10) semi-finalists will sing and from among the ten (10) semi-finalists, two (2) finalists will be selected. The two (2) finalists may be asked to perform for a second time after the game on July 15th.
8.One (1) person will be selected from among the two (2) finalists and will be deemed the grand prize winner.
9.The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Detroit Tigers home game (TBD) and be awarded $1,000.
10.The quarter-finalists, semi-finalists, finalists, and grand prize winner will all be selected based on the same criteria specified in Statement # 3 above.
11.The grand prize winner will be notified in person.
12.All decisions made by the Participating Stations and Bell Broadcasting Company management regarding any aspect of this Contest are final.
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1.Winners are responsible for all applicable taxes associated with the receipt of the prize (prizes are not transferable and may not be exchanged).
2.Any person winning over $600.00 in prizes will receive an IRS form 1099 at the end of the calendar year for tax purposes and a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS as required by law.
3.No purchase necessary. Contest is void where prohibited. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
4.Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible contestants participating during the Contest Period.
5.By participating in the Contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest, in any media now known or hereafter devised for advertising or promotional purposes without additional compensation, and must sign a publicity release prior to acceptance of the prize. By entering this contest, each participant agrees to comply with the Official Rules and the decisions of the contest sponsor which shall be final and binding in all aspects relating to the Contest.
6.All contest winners will be required to sign a liability release prior to acceptance of any prize. Pursuant to the liability release, the winner or winners will agree to hold the Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company, The Detroit Tigers, any other contest parties and each of their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, agencies, officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives of each of the foregoing, harmless against any and all claims or liability, directly or indirectly related to or arising from or in connection with contest participation or the acceptance, possession or use / misuse of awarded prize or any portion thereof, or participation in prize-related activities, including but not limited to any related travel.
7.Winners must provide valid identification (i.e. via driver’s license, passport or other photo I.D.) to claim their prize.
8.The Participating Stations retain the right to disqualify any contestant if all contest rules are not followed. Contest void if prohibited by law.
9.So long as no participant is materially adversely affected, the Participating Stations reserve the right to make changes in the contest rules, which will become effective upon being announced on the air and / or posted online.
10.The Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company, participating sponsors and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates or their representatives, agents and employees are not responsible for the inability of any contestant to complete or continue a telephone call, facsimile transmission or internet registration due to equipment malfunction, busy lines, inadvertent disconnections, communication failures or human error that may occur in the transmission, receipt or processing of entries. In addition, the Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company, participating sponsors and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates or their representatives, agents and employees are not responsible for lost, misdirected, mutilated, illegible or incomplete contest entries. Once submitted, entries become the property of the Participating Stations and will not be returned.
11.By accepting the prize, the winner acknowledges that the Participating Stations and Bell Broadcasting Company have neither made, nor are in any manner responsible or liable for, any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize or to any portion thereof, including but not limited to its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose.
12.The Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company, The Detroit Tigers, their respective parents, subsidiaries, its affiliates, participating sponsors and promotional partners will not assume any responsibility for any changes in the execution of the contest, including; cancellation of the contest as a result of the occurrence of events not within the control of the Participating Stations, Bell Broadcasting Company, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, participating sponsors, promotional partners and other radio stations, such as acts of God, strikes, terrorists acts or criminal acts of third parties. If for any the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including without limitation any suspected evidence of tampering, fraud, an insufficient number of qualified Contest entries, or any other causes beyond the Participating Stations and Bell Broadcasting Company’s control which, in the Participating Stations and Bell Broadcasting Company’s sole opinion, corrupts, threatens or impairs the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, the Participating Stations and Bell Broadcasting Company. reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest at their sole discretion. In the event, such an act should occur; reasonable attempts will be made to offer the winner comparable prize(s) currently being offered by the Participating Stations in lieu of the prize originally awarded.
13.Copies of contest rules are available upon request during regular business hours, Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the offices of WHTD-FM, WDMK-FM, and WCHB-AM located at 3250 Franklin Street, Detroit MI 48207. Copies of contest rules may also be made available during on-site / in-person remote events.
